tattoo inspiration

Something about this design/pattern really strikes me. It meets my main rule, which is monochromatic black silhouette or outline style. I like that the precision of the lines alludes to something digital or somehow technological. I wonder how precise you can be with a tattoo gun? Well, anyway, there's another view below. The final decision is certainly still very far off.

I also like that it's really whimsical somehow and also sort of elegantly dark, as opposed to in your face gothy cheezin'. There's something sinister about it that reminds me of intestines, HVAC pipes, and some kind of evil robot tapeworm.

By the by, I plan on trying to post more often on this thing. I've got a couple of exciting projects in mind and all sorts of new directions I want to go.

edit--
This is similar, almost as a reversal that retains key elements; the very precise, regular lines at varied spacings, and the play on negative space.

tattoo inspiration

Something about the desaturated, bold blackness in these images [via mymodernmet] is reminiscent of what I think I'd like as a tattoo. I'm still contemplating design ideas, but my prime example/absolute favorite is alt model Apnea's notorious block tattoo.

I'm in love with these tattoos on Coco M. via lookbook.nu, a great example of some styles I mentioned in my body ink post. The bold black and placement/composition speak of tribal inspiration. With a theme like this, which has been beaten to death and backs, the way to go is innovative rather than literal. These tattoos accomplish that quite well.

Body Ink

I am something of a body modification enthusiast. In this area I'm most into something less conventional; scarification. I admire the complexity that it carries in its history and also its contemporary form.

Tattoos, though, are a different horse all together. Or, you could say, scarification is the horse and tattoos are its embellished cousin [read: zebra]. I find that among tattoos, the ones that impress me the most are those that catch me by surprise because they take the art form in a new direction. The examples that follow are some of my all time favorites.

Monochromatic Tattoos:
The use of bold, solid black can make much bigger impact than color, which gets busy. It takes skill to impress through minimalist simplicity, and these kinds of tattoos are much sleeker looking. This approach contradicts the sailor inspired tradition of overly busy, carnival-esque tattoos.
